FAQs

Do you sell ad space on your site?

99% of the time, no. But it’s completely dependent on the advertised product so feel free to ask.

What’s your freelance avaiability and rates?

I’m afraid I’m no longer taking on any freelance design work, although I’m open to speaking and writing invitations.

Do you charge for speaking and writing?

It depends on the situation.

Can I use your background image on my site?

No, sorry. However, I do write regular tutorials for .net magazine that often show you how to achieve similar results, so check them out.

What if I ask for it nicely first?

Sorry, but the answer’s still no. And just because you’ve asked doesn’t mean you can go ahead and use it anyway. Seriously.

How do I < insert XHTML / CSS tecnhique here > ?

If it’s a technique I’m using on my site, just have a look at the source code.

I’ve had a look at the source code and I think it’s a Wordpress / PHP thing I want to know

Ok, then send me an e-mail. I’ll try and help out if I’ve got time.

Will you be releasing your site’s Wordpress theme to the public?

No. Not even for money. Um… unless it’s a lot of money.

Do you create custom Wordpress themes for money?

I’m no longer taking on any freelance design work (please see above).

Will you link to my site?

I will if I genuinely love your site, so send me the URL and I’ll take a look. I won’t link to you just because you link to me.

You call this version 4.5, but whatever happened to 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4?

I admit that this isn’t correct version numbering, but the “.5″ comes from the fact that this iteration of the site is the halfway point between the previous version (4) and the next major redesign (5).

What’s that Twitter thing?

Have a look at twitter.com/elliotjaystocks. Twitter allows you to post small updates (called “tweets”) and people subscribed to your feed will be notified. It’s kind of like text messaging where the world is your recipient.

Where’d that bird come from, then?

That’s the application icon for Twitterific, a Mac OSX app for keeping track of your friends’ tweets.

Your site doesn’t support Internet Explorer 6. That’s rubbish! Loads of people use that browser!

It does support IE6, actually; however, some of the features will not display on IE6 due to its poor support for Web Standards. IE6 users count for a tiny proportion of this site’s visitors.

Why do you have charity logos at the bottom of your site?

Greenpeace, The World Wildlife Fund, and Friends of the Earth are the 3 charities I personally donate to on a monthly basis.

What about human charities, you heartless b*****d?!?

Humankind is not an endangered species.
