I have something to report… and something for you to download!
The last two weeks in the studio have been extremely fruitful. After having to abandon my original recording timeslot in December, I’ve managed to fit it into the last fortnight (woo hoo – no client work!). And you’ll be pleased to hear that I have something to show for it.
So before I waffle on any further, here’s a free download for you: a 5 minute, 5 song medley of tracks from my forthcoming EP. It’s DRM-free (of course!) and it’s 320kbps. Get it, share it, and enjoy!

Please let me know what you think in the comments. The mixes you hear are very rough and everything is subject to change, but I’m hoping that this little MP3 will give you a relatively accurate taste of what’s to come, and hopefully it’ll prove that I was telling the truth about recording an EP!
Progress
Right now, my friend and collaborator Rhys has been given the source files and he’ll soon be starting work on some remixes. These remixes will be combined with the existing tracks and the whole lot will then receive a final mix to make it all sound lovely.
What this means is that I’m aiming to release EP 1 in about a month from now. Exciting! (Well, for me.)
Recap
In case you haven’t read part 1 and part 2 of the Studio Diary, this EP will be the first of a two EP set; the second will surface around summer. Both EPs will feature five tracks and will be available as downloads only. You’ll be able to pay what you want for them, with a minimum payment of just £1 per EP. If sales go well and there’s enough money in the pot to pay for the production of a physical release, then I’ll do just that at the end of the year: put out a CD album that combines both EPs, features at least two extra tracks, and comes in some beautiful lavish packaging.
Again, let me know what you think! I can’t wait to play you the finished tracks! Also, thanks so much for all your encouragement in previous posts and Twitter messages. Together, we shall rock! :D

Not at all what Iwas expecting, but nevertheless was very impressed! Makes me want to hear more now.

I think I’ll be checking out the EP based on that sample – not really what I expected, and (if you don’t mind me saying) better than I expected too!
Judging by your Last.fm selection, it seems as though we share quite a foundation in musical taste too.

Sounding good .. not that I’m well versed, but from what I’ve heard of your stuff before this has definitely matured, and sounds like its got some really interesting movement.
Makes me think that I’d love to do some Dave Gahan style vocals over some bits.
Interested to hear the finished piece.
Also I’ve just grabbed Rhys’ album after checking out his myspace, very nice indeed.

Some great beats in that there mix. I remember listening to some samples on your band site a while ago and thinking that I definitely need to buy one of your CD’s. I’ll definitely be in for a purchase when the new EP’s released.

Cool – great to hear the ‘Haze is back in the picture. The thumb piano (mbira?!) is succulently haunting. :)
I get the FourTet reference too, though probably without the folk- part of “folktronica”. Really like the break on the penultimate trak with (with the distorted guitar). Can’t wait for your final release……

Elliot, these tracks are really varied. Super interesting. Makes me wish I could see you in your studio jamming out with a GGulden Draak in hand! Some of the songs feel a bit obscure to me, and that may be my tastes. For this style of music, I often prefer a sound that tells a long story through each track and an over arching theme for the whole album. I’ve been listening to Explosions in the Sky (The earth is not a cold dead place) today for that reason, I love the story it tells throughout the album.
Great work man, I can’t wait to hear the whole thing!

Very interested in hearing the finished product now, I hadn’t looked at your last.fm albums feed, but I can see the Nine Inch Nails cover in there, and I liked the heavier stuff towards the end of the sampler.

Wow.
Squarepusher, Source Direct, David Axelrod, FSOL, Beanfield, DM’s Violator, and more. Love the originality of it, though, it’s actually hard to place.
I love the stereo-ness to it all, too. Not many people do much with altering stereo output. Can’t wait. Seriously. MORE MORE.Can’t wait.

Well, guys, I’m absolutely blown away by the response! Thank you so much for all your kind words and encouragement! As I said before, this is the first time that anyone’s actually been ‘anticipating’ my music, so I’ve got a real buzz out of reading your comments. Thank you!
And now for a couple of answers (sorry this has taken me so long)…
@ Abi Noda: Thanks for the Tycho comparison. This is significant for three reasons. 1. I’ve loved Scott’s music (and drooled over his artwork) since he was virtually unknown. 2. My new EP is massively influenced by other bands on the same label (Ghostly), such as Kiln. 3. Scott, like me, is something of a designer / musician hybrid. If I can be half as successful as him, I’ll be immensely happy!
@ Jason Cale: Dave Gahan style vocals sounds very interesting indeed! As you can no doubt tell, I’m a huge Depeche Mode fan. Oh, and thanks for picking up Rhys’ album, by the way. He’s an amazing musician.
