Article illustration for Typesites

My friend Kyle unveiled a brand new project on Monday: the rather lovely Typesites, which is - to quote the site’s about page - “a biweekly showcase of websites with interesting typographic design.” It’s a great idea and offers a lot more in the way of content and quality than your average ‘gallery’ site. In fact it’s not a gallery site at all; more like a magazine about typography, where each site is treated to a full and thorough review.

Ok, I’m slightly biased because I wrote the first article, but go and check it out if you haven’t already. It’s proving insanely popular on the interwebs!

This is exactly what I have been looking for! I was just saying to myself today about how I want to learn more about Web Typography. Then BAM! in my Google Reades lands this little gem. I especially like how the site breaks-down the design… great learning tool. It definitely show more initiative and in turn will be more valuable then other sites that simple bombard you with countless number of screenshots with no rhyme or reasons….. thanks!

This is a great idea, one thing that fustrates me about CSS galeries is the lack of an explanation as to why they were chosen and what are the best parts of a site. This has so much more content and all the better for it, would love to see some negative reviews as well, I think comment on what to avoid would be interesting.

I may well be adding this site to my reader v. soon.

Thanks guys - I’m glad you like it. There are some great reviews coming up and hopefully it’s moved some readers to submit their own reviews, too.

@ Stevie K: I expect there’ll be some negative reviews at some point. I think the initial batch will be mainly positive, though - we need to send some good vibes for launch! :)

I stumbled upon type sites a couple of days ago and was excited to see that you played some sort of role. I also enjoy Kyle’s blog a lot so I know only good things will come of typesites. It is great to see someone putting rationale emphasis on web design, instead on considering a design good based solely upon its overly glossy aesthetic.

    Keep up the great work!
