UPDATE: I’ve got a promo code for WDN that’ll give you a discount on the ticket price. Scroll down for info…

I’m really excited to be announcing some more speaking events; this time for the first few months of 2009. I gots me some travellin’ to do!

Oxford Geek Night X

21st January / Oxford, UK

Although it’s a small event, I hold Oxford Geek Night quite dear in my heart, since it was the first speaking gig I ever had, back in the summer of last year. So I’m throughly chuffed to be presenting one of the keynote speeches at the tenth OGN; or ‘OGNX’ as it’s starting to become known. So if you’re feeling some post-Christmas blues come January, get your bums over to Oxford for some spirit-lifting and general web geekery.

Web Directions North ‘09

2nd - 7th February / Colorado, USA

I’m so excited about speaking at WDN that if I had to wait any longer before telling you, I surely would’ve exploded. Luckily for you and the walls of my office, my body and I remain completely intact and we’ll be speaking at this fantastic event on the cusp of The Rockies, giving a talk entitled Progressive Enhancement & Intentional Degradation 2, a sequel to the microslot talk I gave at OGN3 last year.

Not only that, but I’ll be teaching the half-day workshop From Photoshop To The Browser: The Successful Design Process. I can’t wait! I get to share the stage with people such as Dan Cederholm, Dave Shea, Derek Featherstone, Dion Almaer, and other speakers whose names don’t begin with D, such as John Allsopp, Jina Bolton, and Brian Fling. Plus we all get to try our hands (well, legs) at snowboarding or skiiing after the event.

Do you need any more reasons to come? How about a promo code? Enter WDN09ES when you register and you’ll get $50 off the prevailing price of the conference (making it just $745 before December 5th), or for those just attending the workshop, $50 off (making it just $195 - the rate for conference attendees).

SXSW Interactive ‘09

13th - 17th March / Texas, USA

I can’t take any credit for this, because the panel proposal I submitted didn’t make it through (boo!), but luckily for me I’ve been asked to speak on the web typography panel Quit Bitchin’ and Get Your Glyph On chaired by Samantha Warren of Viget Labs and featuring me, Jon Tan, John Boardley, and Ian Coyle. This will be first ever SXSW so I’m hoping it’ll live up to the stories I’ve heard about previous years.

Twiist.be

15th May / Leuven, Belgium

Given that I’m something of a Belgian beer geek, it will come as no surprise whatsoever that I’m rather fond of Brussels, so being invited over to nearby Leuven to talk about interface design sounds ok to me! Twiist.be is a new event, designed to replicate the dConstruct-like vibe in mainland Europe.

So…

…who’ll be attending? I’m aiming to speak at least 4 events every year, so it feels good to know that next year’s quota is already sorted. :)

If you want to see me speak this year, there are two events coming up: Spletne Urice in Ljubljana, Slovenia, next week, and the Web developers Conference in Bristol, UK, on 12th November. I hope to see you there!

(PS: When I get a moment I’ll sprinkle these event listings with some Microformats love, I promise.)
