UPDATE: Well, it’s done and dusted - what did you guys think?

I’ve been asked to speak at the forthcoming Oxford Geek Night event on Wednesday 25th July, which I admit is a bit short notice but I’ve only just found out myself. I’m really looking forward to it, and although the microslot speakers (of which I’m one) have yet to be officially announced, the keynotes will be from Matt Biddulph (of Dopplr) and Andy Budd (of Clear Left). Wow. What an honour to be sharing that stage!

If anyone’s in the area and feels like coming along, it’ll be great to meet some of you; the details are here. No throwing rotten tomatoes, please. 

if you need an incentive (apart from a beer fuelled evening of web-related geekery, of course), Google - who are sponsoring it - are supplying free drinks vouchers to the first 140 geeks through the door.

Ok, instead of rambling on here I should get on with writing my speech. After the event, expect a blog post with a write-up, PDF slides, and maybe even a video. Ooh, you lucky things, you.

  I envy all you designers over there in the UK for having stuff like this. Here in the states, there isn’t much in the way of web related meetings like this, at least not here in Tucson AZ. Sounds like a blast.

  Thanks Matt - much appreciated. Check out BD4D (By Designers For Designers) for similarly informal web-centric get-togethers. They happen all over the world and you can curate your own, so perhaps you can start the first one in Tucson! :)

  I’ll be there and looking forward to it - hoping the floods do not keep people away.

  Thanks for an interesting talk last night - often we find ourselves bending over backwards to cater for older browsers, so it was refreshing to see the whole reward and punishment thing as an upgrade incentive!
